Whitsunday Apartments, Hamilton Island

Whitsunday Apartments, Hamilton IslandI'd like to tell you about a fabulous holiday destination to take kids...Hamilton Island in the Whitsunday Islands. We've been there three times now because it is the only place we can take holidays with the kids where both adults and kids enjoy it.

Advantages are: Direct flights to the island several times a day.

The island has several resort-style accommodations. The best one for families is the Whitsunday Apartments with separate bedrooms and kitchen facilities.

Kids under 14 'play, stay and eat free'. That is, there is no accommodation charge for them. In most of the restaurants they can eat free and they can use the kid's club.

As far as things for the kids to do... I have three sons. We let the older two take off during the day with a mobile phone in case we need to contact them. They usually just swim in the pools or the beach, or meet up with other kids. As it is an island, we don't have to worry about them. And the 'traffic' is golf buggies going 20k/hr. The younger one is too young to be on his own, so he has the option of going to the free Clownfish Club for the morning session, afternoon session, or both sessions. He loved it there. They always have lots of activities for the kids, such as zoo visits, mini golf and ferry trips. And he gets to make a lot of friends.

And what are mum and dad doing when they have a few child free hours? We could be swimming in one of the many pools or spas, lying on the beach, going for some walks to the lookouts where you can see the most beautiful views of the Whitsundays or having a drink at the Yacht Club. Quite likely, we are having a Heavenly Hamilton Cocktail at the Island Bar, and lying on a lounger in the sun having a snooze or reading a book.

Some of the other things to do there which the kids (and parents) loved are watersports, paintball, hire a buggy and take a tour of the island, go-karts and the wire flyer which is like hang-gliding on a rope.
