Overseas travellers will save money when they order American Express Travellers Cheques or foreign currency from Australia Post, with the normal commission charge waived from now until the end of September.
From now until September 30, 2004, customers placing their travel money order through Australia Post will not pay any commission, which can range from $11 to $66, including GST.
“The zero commission offer can add up to significant savings,” said Mr Iain Andrews, Australia Post Financial Services Group Manager.
Customers who place their order with Australia Post will also receive a free Lonely Planet Safe Travel booklet, a joint initiative by American Express and Australia Post, when they collect their order until the end of September 2004.
The Safe Travel Guide includes tips on how to stay healthy, manage travel finances, security advice, an extensive pre-travel checklist and what to do if things don’t go as planned.
Just a few sample tips include:
Allow at least four weeks to organise your passport Check current political hotspots before your trip at www.smartraveller.gov.au Ensure your insurance policy covers you for flight cancellations, medical care, emergency evacuation and protecting your belongings. Never rely on just one form of travel money. Experienced travellers carry a mixture of travellers cheques, cards and cash. Do some research on your destinations. Some countries require at least six months validity remaining on your passport before they allow you to enter, and you may need a visa. “The commission savings on travel money and the Safe Travel Guide which are both exclusive to Australia Post complements our passport service making travel planning simple and efficient,” added Mr Andrews.
Australia Post has competitive foreign exchange rates and the convenience of easy access with American Express Travellers Cheques and foreign cash available through more than 3,000 outlets across Australia. Travellers can also take any unused American Express Travellers Cheques back to participating Australia Post outlets to be exchanged for Australian currency.
Copies of the Safe Travel booklet are available on request.
