The Fraser Island resort closed temporarily as a bushfire threatened the northern end of the island.
But the threat has now passed, thanks to significant rainfall across Queensland.
“The oasis around Kingfisher Bay Resort and the island’s iconic attractions are all safe and well-protected, thanks to the firefighting efforts and rainfall over the past few days,” the resort said in a statement.
“We will be welcoming new arrivals at the resort from December 19th, and all tours, cruises, and activities will resume as normal for our summer season.”
“It is important to note that while the media coverage has focussed on the burned areas on the northern end of the island, you can rest assured that the area surrounding our property and the central locations frequented by our tours have NOT been affected.”
Lake McKenzie, Pile Valley, Central Station, Wanggoolba Creek, Lake Wabby, Eli Creek, Indian Head, and Champagne Pools all remain in pristine condition.
Visitors will be able to see the beginnings of the bushland regrowth over the next few months.
It’s been a tough year for tourism operators in Queensland with the COVID pandemic and bushfires. Now is a great time to show them support and love by booking a holiday.
