Victoria offers $200 travel vouchers to kick start regional tourism

The Victorian government will give away $200 travel vouchers to residents in an attempt to boost tourism in regional areas.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the $200 travel vouchers as part of a $465 million tourism package.

Victorians will qualify for a voucher if they spend at least $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours in regional Victoria.

“Whether it’s a day trip with the family or a tour along our stunning coast, we’re helping more people get out and enjoy the best Victoria has to offer,” Mr Andrews said.

“This funding will help tourism businesses bounce back from the challenges of this year.”

When can I use the $200 travel voucher?

Andrews said he expected the travel vouchers to be ready in time for the Christmas holidays.

Industry groups will work with the Victorian government on the final design.

We do not know yet how Victorians can access the vouchers.

It comes just one day after the NSW government announced a similar travel voucher scheme.

NSW residents can access four $25 vouchers for restaurants or entertainment.

Victoria Tourism upgrades

In addition to the $200 voucher scheme, the Victorian government will also upgrade regional tourism areas.

The Great Ocean Road will get a $47.5 million upgrade
East Gippsland will receive $18.5 million including new accommodation and improvements to the East Gippsland Rail Trail.
The government has allocated $$3.5 million for the creation of 10 “eco pods” in Cape Conron Coastal Park
Falls to Hotham Alpine Trail has secured $15 million for improvements.

The Victorian goverment has also promised a new $150 million Regional Tourism Investment Fund to support “nature-based, First Nations, arts and culture and food and wine tourism projects.”
