Check the weather forecast before you head to the mountain so that you can layer appropriately for a warm or cold day.
Warm up and cool down properly before and after you ride.
Proper layering starts with good thermals that keep you warm and wick away moisture. Avoid cotton as it retains moisture close to your body, which can make you cold.
Comfortable feet are key. Only one pair of socks is necessary and make sure they are not cotton. Also, thicker is not better.
Goggles will help protect your eyes from sun and wind, and help you see on a snowy day. Keep a goggle-cleaning cloth in your jacket.
Apart from protecting your head, most helmets are just as warm as a hat and keep your head dry.
Wearing a jacket and pants that are both wind- and water-resistant will keep you warm and comfortable so that you can focus on linking turns.
Some fluids and a little something to eat will help keep your energy levels up.
