Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland and currently the world’s most reliable international carrier, is based in Vantaa at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. It is one of the world’s oldest airlines, operating since 1923.

Wi-Fi access can be bought for one hour, three hours or for the duration of the flight. Customers can also access the aircraft’s Nordic Sky portal with their own devices to see news, contact customer services or explore destination information. The Nordic Sky portal does not require purchasing internet access.
All of Finnair’s long-haul aircraft have business class seats that recline into fully flat position. The fully adjustable seats also come with an individual reading light, adjustable headrest, mood lights and a range of inflight entertainment options. Textiles, tableware and amenity kits with iconic Finnish design house Marimekko prints bring a calming Nordic feeling to the aircraft interiors.
Finnair offers flights from Australian ports to Helsinki via several destinations in Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo, Delhi, Seoul in connection with oneworld and other airlines alliances partners. There is a dedicated check-in desk at Helsinki Airport for passengers travelling with children. The desk is labelled “Special Passengers” and is also marked with the corresponding international symbols.
Finnair attendants hand out Moomin themed toys and other entertainment items to children at the beginning of the flight, after the airline renewed its family travel concept in 2018.
All these items are child safe, of high quality and suitable for use on board. The entertainment materials your child will receive vary depending on the duration of the flight and the age of your child. Finnair’s entertainment selection includes movies, cartoons and games for children.
You can bring a foldable pushchair into the cabin if it doesn’t exceed the size and weight limits for carry-on-baggage. Larger pushchairs are carried as checked baggage free of charge.
If the pushchair including its wheels, which need to be clean form dirt, is within the size and weight of a carry-on bag, it may be carried as part of your carry-on allowance. In this case the pushchair is counted as one piece of carry-on baggage and in addition to it you may bring only a small personal item into the cabin (handbag or small laptop bag), which has to be placed under the seat in front of you.
Other children’s pushchairs are carried in the hold of the aircraft free of charge. If your pushchair can be disassembled, you should separate it into two parts. Please pack each part in plastic bags or some other form of protection. At the check-in desk at Helsinki Airport there are thin plastic bags to protect your baby’s pushchair.
At most airports there are pushchairs you can borrow to move from check-in to the gate.
If your child is under two years and you have reserved them a seat on the plane, he or she may travel with an age-appropriate infant seat or infant car seat.
You must obtain confirmation from Finnair before bringing an infant seat on board. You must present the seat’s usage instructions when you board the aircraft, so that they can check its safety certification labelling. They cannot, however, guarantee that your infant seat will be compatible with the aircraft seat you have reserved for your child – if your infant seat does not fit into the aircraft seat of it cannot be safely secured, they will place it in an overhead locker or the hold of the aircraft. Infant seats must be equipped with a three- or five-point harness and will be fastened to the aircraft seat facing backwards. Infant car seats must be equipped with a five-point harness and will be fastened to the aircraft seat facing forward.
You can reserve a baby basket if you are travelling on an intercontinental scheduled flight. As baby basket places in the cabin are limited, we recommended that you reserve your basket when you book your flights tickets, either through the Finnair office or your travel agency. You must pay for a first-row seat in order to use a baby basket. You can reserve your seat online via the Select Your Seat service on their website.
If your child is under two years, he or she must sit on an adult’s lap wearing a separate safety belt or in a child restraint device fastened to the aircraft seat – this is especially important during take-off, landing and periods of irregularity (for example, those caused by turbulence). The inside length of baby baskets is 70 centimetres. The infant using the basket may not weigh more than nine kilograms. A baby basket is recommended for infants no older than six months.
