If you’ve ever planned a caravanning trip, you know that the very first step, after picking your Jayco van, is choosing where to go.
The beauty of having a Jayco RV is the freedom and flexibility to travel wherever you like, whenever you like. Whether it’s an off-road adventure you’re after, or a caravan park stay – Australia is yours to explore. But where to go first?
We sought the help of some expert travellers to help even the most indecisive road trippers narrow it down by sharing their favourite places to travel in their Jayco. The destinations they keep coming back to and the ones they just can’t forget.
Eco-lovers and seasoned Jayco caravanners the Schlinks, aka ‘Caravan of Conservation’, can’t get enough of Exmouth in Western Australia. With a passion for conservation, Theresa and Ben Schlink love to teach their kids about the natural habitats they visit.
“Teaching our children about wildlife is one thing, but being able to show them firsthand as we snorkel together on the Ningaloo Reef, well that’s just a really special thing.” Turtles, stingrays and whale sharks – you name it the Schlinks have gotten up close and personal with it.
The Schlinks’ idea of a perfect Exmouth afternoon: “Pull up your van to a beach site with amazing ocean views, step from your caravan into the reef and then watch a spectacular Australian sunset.”

The Allards, better known as ‘Allards Across Oz’, loved East Arnhem Land so much that they extended their stay three times. “We were drawn to East Arnhem Land because of the remote and untouched location, amazing beaches, creeks, islands and fishing,” Kerry Allard reminisces.
Rich in Aboriginal culture, East Arnhem provides opportunities you can’t experience anywhere else in Australia. Kerry says the highlight of the Allards’ stay was meeting two elders from a nearby Aboriginal community. “After spending a couple of hours sharing stories on their beach, they invited us into their community and into their local school. We learnt so much and felt honoured to spend time there.”

If you’re the kind of family that likes to create new memories at a repeat destination, the Beckwith family, aka ‘Big & Little Adventures’, have the spot. They take their Jayco Expanda Outback to K’gari (Fraser Island) at least once a year.
Having lost count of the number of times they’ve visited, the Beckwiths have perfected their K’gari itinerary. They suggest visitors include a swim in the lazy river at Eli Creek (bring your floaties), Platypus Bay, Champagne Pools, and arvo fishing at Waddy Point. “You can’t beat the pure white silica sand and blue freshwater of Lake McKenzie,” Amber Beckwith labels the spot a must-do on the island. “The best time to visit is around midday when the sun is high in the sky. This is when you’ll see the lake in its best light.”
