Try the candy-filled ‘human claw machine’ in Brisbane and Melbourne

Designed for kids and adults, players can keep all the candy they can carry for just $35!

Wonka’s whimsical chocolate factory may be a fictitious creation, but those seeking a similar world of sweets and wonderment need only visit Melbourne’s Highpoint Shopping Centre. Tom’s Confectionary Warehouse has sold Australia’s largest range of confectionary and gifts since 1982, but didn’t open the doors to a bricks-and-mortar store until November 2023. Shortly after, in January 2024, the lolly superstore became a Guinness World Record Holder for the World’s Largest Pick ‘n’ Mix Aisle, offering a range of more than 940 varieties of lollies. Now, the incredible emporium is a brightly-hued heaven where an aeroplane hangs from the ceiling, an animatronic dinosaur roars at passers-by, a life-size unicorn stalks the shelves and a giant Transformer watches over the 30,000 varieties of sweets from around the world. There’s even a Simpsons chair for snapping pics with Homer and the family. But that’s not all.

Strap into ‘The Human Claw’ in Melbourne

Set in the centre of the sprawling sugar den is an enormous claw machine filled to the brim with candy, chocolates and other goodies. The so-called ‘Human Claw’ machine carries adults and children into the pit, where each player has the chance to scoop up as much loot as they can hold, and keep every bit they can carry back to the starting point! The Human Claw costs $35 per person, per attempt, and every player is guaranteed to take home at least $50 worth of treats. Children must be at least eight years old to play and be at least 120cm tall with a minimum weight of 30kg. Adult players must not exceed two metres or 120kg. No bookings are required – just show up and play.

‘The Human Claw’ opens in Brisbane

If you don’t live in Melbourne, never fear, for Tom’s Confectionary Warehouse has opened an outpost in Brisbane on Nudgee Road, and the second location unveiled its very own Human Claw Machine on January 26! So, what are you waiting for? Get in, scoop your loot, and enjoy some lollies!
