The Muppets and Fraggles are coming to Brisbane!

Step into the world of Jim Henson at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art.  

Millennials and ’80s babies grew up watching Jim Henson’s incredible creations. From The Muppet Show with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear to whimsical tales such as The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth with David Bowie, Jim Henson’s characters, puppetry and craftsmanship made him a household name – he even worked on Sesame Street.  

And now, parents looking to share the same joy they felt watching Henson’s imaginations can take their children to Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art to step into the world of Jim Henson. ‘Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company’ will be exclusively exhibited at the Queensland gallery from 12 September 2026 to 18 April 2027.  

The exhibition explores the world-building of The Jim Henson Company, taking visitors behind the scenes of some of Henson’s most famous characters and stories. Spread across the entire ground floor, the exhibition marks 70 years of the company and showcases hundreds of objects, including practical puppets and animatronic creatures, props, costumes, original drawings and moving image clips. 

However, it’s the ‘Great Hall’ set from the Emmy Award-winning television series Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, that is set to be the major drawcard, an installation that takes visitors behind the scenes of a puppeteer film set. A film program in the Gallery’s Australian Cinémathèque will also show productions developed by The Jim Henson Company, brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. 

Expect to meet beloved personalities from Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth,The Muppets, The Portable Door, Farscape and even Babe.
